Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

Dear Seventh Grade Students and Families,

My Name is David Belcheff, and I will be your Ancient History teacher this year at North Phoenix Prep. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you, working with you, and growing with you.

History is not something we learn once and then know. It is an ever-deepening process of exploration. And it is often messy. What do I mean by messy? Well, there are often different accounts of the same events, and different interpretations of the evidence we use to understand history. Our job as historians is to learn how to analyze and compare evidence in order to try to better understand what happened in the past.

On the first day of class you will receive a syllabus. Your first homework assignment, due Thursday, August 8, will be to read your syllabus, then remove the last page of it, complete it, and turn it in. On that page I will ask you for your name and the name of one of your grown-ups, and both of your email addresses. I will also ask you two open-ended questions about yourself. That's all!

No matter what your interest level in history is, you will find this class both interesting and easy to keep up with.

See you soon!

Mr. Belcheff
