Woo Hoo! It's Friday! And...

Don't forget: There's no school on Monday. :)

Do Now: Read all of p. 102.

Exercise 10B: In five complete sentences, discuss factors that contributed to Sargon’s military and administrative successes. Hint: Reviewing p. 98, ¶ 5 should be helpful! You must have your own "Your answer" separate from (and as well as) the... Model answer: Several factors contributed to Sargon’s military and administrative successes. Sargon’s troops were less encumbered and more agile than other Sumerian armies and used bows and arrows to run around and shoot down their enemies. Sargon kept representatives of the old ruling families he conquered as well-treated hostages his court and paid tribute to their local gods, helping him gain the respect of those he conquered. He created a working bureaucratic system that included standardized weights and measures and an Egyptian-style tax system. These factors helped Sargon’s dynasty last for over a century.

Exercise 10C: First: Annotate “The Adoration of Inanna at Ur” by Enheduanna (on p. 2 of your Field Notes No. 10). Your careful and silent annotation of the text should take about five minutes, and your careful and silent reflection on the text (in order to formulate a discussion question about it) should also take about five minutes. Think about all the things we’ve discussed about gods and humans so far this year. Then: Write an open-ended Discussion Question about “The Adoration of Inanna in Ur.” You may come up with the Discussion Question with your tablemates, but then for the ‘Conversation starter,’ write how you would lead a discussion about the text based on your (or your table’s) Discussion Question. In other words, make the Conversation starter your own, whether or not you wrote the DQ with your tablemates. If you do not understand these directions, raise your hand.
