Do Now—Exercise 16A (Complete as HW): Copy the following information verbatim: Hyksos – Hyksos is short for Hikau-khoswet which means “Desert Princes.” The Hyksos were Western Semitic immigrants who took over rule of Egypt when Sheshi destroyed both the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Dynasties and started the Fifteenth Dynasty. Apepi I – Apepi I was the fifth Hyksos king. His attempt to pick a fight with Sequenere, the king of Dynasty 17 in Thebes, exemplified the long-distance hostility between Dynasties 15 and 17, and resulted not only in the death of Sequenere but also in subsequent reprisals. Avaris – The city of Avaris (tr.“Desert Mansion”), which lay in the desert just east of the Delta, was where the Hyksos’s Fifteenth Dynasty headquarters were located.
