Do Now—Exercise 18A: Anittas – Anittas was the chief of the Hittite city of Kussara. Conquering Hattusas and Purushkhanda, Anittas created a Hittite nation. Hattusilis I – Hattusilis I expanded the Hittite territory down into the Western Semite kingdoms. He made the Hittite nation into an empire that ruled over more than one people. Mursilis – Mursilis, a nephew of Hattusilis, became king of the Hittites. Mursilis used his power to conquer Aleppo and Babylon, but he could not protect himself from assassination plots against him; he was murdered by his cupbearer. Read: Ch. 26 HW: Read Ch. 26.
