Grown-Ups, please see the Late/Incomplete Homework policy, below. Your scholar will bring a copy of it home to you today.

Do Now—Treasure Hunt!—Exercise 27B:

Find a sentence in Chapter Thirty-One related to this hunting scene depicted on a dagger blade excavated at a Royal Grave Circle in Mycenae. Write the sentence down in Exercise 27B, note the page and paragraph numbers, and turn your paper over when done. Then silently review Ch. 31.

Answer:

“The oxhide shields of the soldiers of Knossos are painted with dapples that mimic animal hide; the shields of Mycenae bear the same pattern.” p. 226, ¶ 5

Read / Review:

Ch. 31

HW:

Spend twenty minutes working on (and hopefully completing) Field Notes No. 26.

===============

Dear Families of Ancient History Scholars:

Please take a moment to read the policy for late and incomplete work in Ancient History…

LATE WORK:

Late work will lose 20% credit for each day it is late, which means that work turned in five or more school days late will get “0” credit (and will generally not appear on missing assignment reports after that). Upon their return, students with excused absences have as many days as they were absent plus one to turn in their work before the late penalty “clock” begins. Example: Sally misses school on the Friday when Field Notes No. 22 is due. She can turn in that assignment by the following Tuesday without a penalty. If she turn it in on Wednesday, she will be able to earn only up to 80% credit, on Thursday, 60% credit, etc. Please note that students must write the date(s) of their absence(s) above their names on the front of their assignment before turning it in order to take advantage of this absence policy. Whenever they are absent, students are responsible for checking the homework blog and/or “History Today” emails to find out what they missed in class. Please contact me (by email or in person upon return) if clarification of directions and/or additional copies of handouts are needed.

INCOMPLETE WORK:

Incomplete assignments will simply not be graded. Incomplete assignments will be returned to students with a note specifying what section of the assignment needs to be completed before it will be graded, and the 20% loss of credit penalty for each day late will apply to the assignment if and when it is completed and re-submitted.

Every day a detailed description of the work done in class and the homework assigned that day is posted on the homework blog:

https://dbelcheff.wixsite.com/mysite/blog

The same information is sent in a “History Today” email to any and every parent and scholar who wants it sent to them. If you or your student have an email address that is not already on the daily “History Today” email, you can simply send me an email specifying what email address(es) you would like added to the list, and you’ll start getting the emails the next day. My email address is:

Thank you for your attention to these matters. Please reach out any time with questions or concerns!
