Do Now—Exercise 29C—copy the following verbatim:

Phrygians – The Phrygians were invaders from southern Europe who crossed over the Bosphorus Strait and settled in the area of Asia Minor after destroying the Hittite empire. Their capital was Gordium.

Mada – The Mada, nomadic peoples wandering all along the north of the Zagros mountains, acted as a buffer against Elamite power for the Assyrian kingdom. Later the Mada would be named the Medes by the Greeks.
