Cyaxares / Cyarxes – Cyaxares was the Median son of Phraortes and grandson of Deioces. Cyaxares took back control of the Medes and Persia from the Scythians, joined with Nabopolassar of Babylon to sack Nineveh and destroy the Assyrian empire in 612 B.C., and established the western border of Media at the Halys River after battling the Lydians there in 585 B.C.

Etruscans – The Etruscans were a meld of Villanovans and newcomers from the east displaced in a chain reaction by Cimmerians in Asia Minor à Phrygians and Lydians à tribes pushed down through northern Italy. The Etruscans were strong builders and wealthy merchants who challenged Latial-Roman expansion.

Lucumo / Lucius Tarquinius Priscus / Tarquin the Elder – Reigning 616-579 B.C., Lucumo was an Etruscan who moved to Rome, worked in the court, and was elected to the throne in 616 after sending the rightful heirs off on a very long “hunting expedition”. The city of Rome developed greatly under Tarquin the Elder and his son-in-law, Servius Tullius.
