Do Now—Exercise 34A—Brain Dump:

  • 1) Using only names and phrases, note everything you remember about each nation in the eighth and seventh centuries B.C. Hint: If nothing is dumping out of your brain, use the Index at the back of the book to find some facts so that you have something to say about each nation, but be sure to include only information from the eighth and seventh centuries B.C.

  • ‘Cimmerians’ has been done for you as an example.

Amytis – Amytis was the daughter of the Median king, Cyarxes, and was married to Nebuchadnezzar II. Amytis spent most of her time in the palaces and gardens of Babylon, apart from her constantly campaigning husband.

Jehoiakim – Israelite ruler. Pretending to change allegiance from Necho II to Nebuchadnezzar II, Jehoiakim joined the Egyptians in an attack against Babylon.
